How it works
Each earbud in a supported model contains an accelerometer, the same category of sensor that powers head-tracking for spatial audio and automatic pause when you take one out. Jumping rope produces a distinct, repeating vertical motion pattern at the head — sharper and more rhythmic than walking or general fidgeting. Bouncer reads that motion stream from the connected AirPods and counts each detected jump the same way it would count a landing sound: one clear motion event, one count, added live to the running total on screen.
Because this method reads motion rather than listening to sound, it keeps working in situations sound counting struggles with — a loud gym, music playing through the AirPods themselves, other people talking nearby. It has its own weak spot instead: it depends on the AirPods staying seated and moving with your head the way jumping actually moves it.

Getting a clean count
- Make sure your AirPods are fully seated. A loose fit shifts the motion signal the same way it would affect any accelerometer-based feature.
- Connect them before starting the session — Bouncer only lists AirPods it can actually see connected, so a missing device in the picker usually means a Bluetooth reconnect is needed.
- Do the one proven test jump the app asks for before a hands-free session starts, so you catch a bad connection before the workout, not during it.
- Music is genuinely optional. Play a full playlist or nothing at all — the sensor doesn't care either way.
