How we calculate
The formula is standard exercise-science math, not something we invented:
kcal/min = MET × 3.5 × weight in kg ÷ 200
MET (metabolic equivalent) values come from the 2011 Compendium of Physical Activities, the reference table exercise scientists and calculators like Omni Calculator use for activity-based calorie estimates:

To convert a jump count into minutes, the calculator assumes a representative rate for the chosen pace: 85/min slow, 110/min moderate, 130/min fast. That assumption is the biggest source of error if your actual rhythm differs — the minutes-mode input skips it entirely.

How accurate is this, really?
MET tables are population averages built from lab measurements of many different people — they are not a measurement of you. Individual variation in technique, efficiency, fitness level, and body composition means a real result can be ±20–30% off the table's estimate even at the same weight and pace. Treat the numbers here as a reasonable planning estimate, not a lab-grade reading. Bouncer's in-app calorie estimate uses the same family of formulas and improves with personal calibration (a one-tap measured max heart rate and kcal/jump), which this static calculator can't do.

How many jumps burn 100 calories?
For a 75 kg person at a moderate pace, about 700 jumps — roughly 6.5 minutes — burns 100 kcal. Lighter people need somewhat more jumps for the same 100 kcal; heavier people need fewer.
Is jumping rope better than running?
Jumping rope burns calories at a similar or slightly higher rate per minute than moderate-pace running, largely because it's easy to sustain a higher effort in almost no space. Neither is objectively better — the one you'll actually keep doing wins.
How accurate is this?
It uses MET values from the Compendium of Physical Activities, a population average. Your actual burn can reasonably vary ±20–30% from the estimate.
